Green Gulal, Clean Tomorrow: Celebrating a Sustainable Holi
The Centre for Climate Resilience, Water Innovation & Green Solutions at Dr. D. Y. Patil International University organized an awareness initiative on 02/03/2026 promoting eco-friendly Holi celebrations. The activity was conducted with active participation of student volunteers and coordinated by Dr. Shailesh Ghodke and Dr. Priyanka Dhoot.
The session highlighted critical concerns such as excessive water usage during Holi, harmful chemical-based colours containing heavy metals, plastic balloon waste, and their impact on human health, animals, soil, and water resources. Students were encouraged to adopt dry Holi practices, use natural and herbal colours, avoid plastic, protect pets and street animals, and clean surroundings responsibly after celebrations.
The initiative aligns with SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 15 (Life on Land), reinforcing the university’s commitment to sustainable and responsible citizenship.
