Cultivating a Culture of Design Excellence

The School of Design (SOD) stands as a vibrant ecosystem of creativity, innovation, and interdisciplinary exploration. Through a series of thoughtfully curated academic, cultural, and industry-oriented initiatives, the School consistently nurtures future-ready designers equipped to engage with global design discourse.

Experiential Learning & Creative Engagements
The School of Design has successfully conducted a wide spectrum of experiential and hands-on activities, reinforcing learning beyond the classroom. These include:
  • Lego-based design thinking workshops, fostering spatial intelligence, problem-solving, and collaborative ideation.
  • Film launches and visual storytelling events, enabling students to explore narrative construction, motion design, and cinematic aesthetics.
  • Creative engagements and design immersions that encourage experimentation across fashion, graphic, animation, interior, and digital design domains.
These initiatives collectively strengthen students’ conceptual clarity, material sensibility, and innovation mindset.

Academic Communication & Design Journalism
SOD has conceptualized, designed, and developed “Zenith – The Heart of Monthly News,” an in-house publication that serves as a platform for:
  • Showcasing academic achievements and student projects
  • Documenting design discourse, events, and research
  • Encouraging editorial design, content curation, and visual communication skills
Zenith reflects the School’s commitment to structured design documentation and professional academic communication.

Global Outreach & International Collaborations
The School of Design is actively working towards strategic international academic collaborations, with a focus on establishing tie-ups with overseas universities, including reputed institutions in Paris—a global epicenter of fashion, art, and design.
  • Student and faculty exchange programs
  • Joint workshops and global studios
  • Exposure to international design pedagogy and industry practices

Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) & Design Ownership
Recognizing the importance of originality and innovation, the School has introduced IPR initiatives for selected student-developed designs. This initiative:
  • Encourages students to protect their creative and intellectual output
  • Sensitizes young designers to legal, ethical, and commercial aspects of design
  • Bridges the gap between academic design and industry-ready innovation
This marks a significant step toward fostering design entrepreneurship and ownership culture within academia.

Pioneering Achievements in Animation & Visual Media
A landmark achievement of the School of Design is the successful release of India’s first graphic animation biopic film. This milestone underscores the School’s leadership in:
  • Advanced animation practices
  • Visual storytelling and digital filmmaking
  • Integrating design, technology, and narrative research
The project exemplifies SOD’s capacity to execute large-scale, conceptually rich, and technically complex creative productions.

Global Recognition & Professional Affiliations
The School of Design at DYPIU, Akurdi holds an official institutional membership with the World Design Organization (WDO), Canada—a prestigious global body representing excellence in design education and practice.
This membership:
  • Positions SOD within an international network of design institutions
  • Reinforces global benchmarking of curriculum and pedagogy
  • Opens avenues for international recognition, competitions, and collaborations
